An elderly well-digger in the south-central province of Binh Dinh was successfully rescued after being buried as deep as eight meters underground for nearly ten hours on Friday.
Nguyen Van Ca, 73, was digging a new well in Binh Nghi Commune, Tay Son District at around 7:30 am, when the ground collapsed around him.
More than 20 firefighters and police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene to rescue the swallowed man.
But it took them as much as nearly ten hours to bring the man up from a depth of around eight meters.
Frequent land depressions have been recorded in the area where the incident occurred, which greatly hindered the rescue efforts, according to officers.
The elderly man is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
